Quick Access lists across backups

Hi,
I'm trying to keep my desktop and laptop in sync with pretty well as much as I can on both machines, including the file structure (using SecondCopy to keep files and folders in sync). I have created a folder layout in DOpus with a Quick Access list that I would like.

I have exported everything from my Desktop and then imported everything into Laptop and the folder layouts are the same, but the contents of the Quick Access are different. Is this by design?

Many thanks
Dave

The Quick Access list is maintained by Windows. I'm not sure if there's a way to import/export it.

(Opus has its own alternative Favorites list, which will be included in config backups, if you don't mind whether or not the list is available in File Explorer and other software, but if you're using Quick Access then that's part of your Windows configuration rather than your Opus config.)

Hi Jon,

Thank you for the quick reply. Yes I used to use the Favorites list which is great becuase you can format it how you want, but (and there's always a but usn't there  ) when I'm in an application (say Word) and want to access the file system it see,s to still bring up the Windows Explorer (or some variant of it) which doesn't have Favorites, but does have Quick Access. I do have replace everything with DOpus set, have I missed something or is this how it works?

Many thanks
Dave

If you want to use Quick Access, Opus can show the list but it isn't part of your Opus configuration, so it's not going to be included in Opus config backups.

Quick Access is a Windows thing, not an Opus thing. There may be a way to backup and restore the Quick Access list in Windows but we don't know of one.

Hi Leo,

I'd actually not want to use it, DOpus Favorities is far better, but the integration of DOpus into Windows while generally excellent, does seem to include applications, unless as I mentioned in my last post I've not got something set.

Best regards
Dave

There's no (sane, reliable) way to replace the File Open dialogs in other programs, if that's what you're asking.

Hi wobbly,

Many thanks for this, and yes quite convoluted, although I'm sure power script could be created
