I've read help docs and forum posts and can't figure out how to do what I want. I don't know whether to use search, filter, or FAYT.
When a folder is in a lister, I want a way to quickly type a text string (with FAYT or with a keyboard shortcut trigger) and show all filenames that match that string, that are in the listed folder or subfolders of the listed folder, but excluding matches outside the listed folder. Possible obstacles: I don't want to have to display folders as "flat view", and I don't want to have to use the DO advanced search window--I just want the matching items to be shown in the lister. Is there a way to accomplish this? Thanks.
Just type the name you want to search for into the Search field (top right of the window).
The "Opus search" mode will do here, unless you have Everything installed, in which case "Everything search" will also work well and is faster on large directories (if they are indexed).
"Windows search" can also be used, but I'd avoid that as Windows Search syntax is a pain at times.
Thanks. I have Everything installed, but don't see it in the Search field. How to enable it? Also, I'm using Everything 1.5 alpha, is that the problem?
See this page on getting Everything to work with Opus. If you're using the alpha you probably just need to add the alpha_instance=0 line to the ini file.
