When I "Quit Skype" by right-clicking the icon in the taskbar, Windows Explorer Shell crashes (with the message "Windows Explorer has stopped working"). I can restart it by clicking "Restart Program".
If I end the process "dopus.exe" before I "Quit Skype", the Windows Explorer Shell does not crash. However, dopus.exe restarts after the Shell restarts, so if I want to Quit Skype again, I also need to again end dopus.exe.
Skype= v5.1.0.112
dopus=v9.5.5.0.3889.x64
OS=Win7 64 bit
So the shell is still restarting when you Quit Skype, just not crashing? Why is the shell restarting at all (including when Opus isn't running, by the sound of it)?
Is there a reason you've not installed Opus 9.5.6.0? It has some fixes for the Explorer Replacement code which may or may not be relevant but are at least worth a try. FWIW, I have not heard of any problems where Opus is involved in the shell crashing, especially when a third program is doing something.

The shell is not restarting by itself. Only after clicking "Restart Program" in the error window after the shell crashes.
It does not crash at all when Opus is not running; only when Opus is running.
What I was trying to say (Sorry, I couldn't correct my post above) was:
I close Opus
I open and close Skype
This causes an automatic restart of Opus - which by itself is weird...
Very strange, in that case, since Opus isn't really involved with the Desktop process in that case.
My assumption is that it is a Skype issue and Opus is just getting tied up in things. This thread on the Skype forums has some suggestions which solved it for at least one person, and a lot of other people seeing a similar problem (albeit back in 2008) with no mention of Opus:
(A quick search found a bunch of other threads about Skype triggering crashes on exit, too. It looks worth searching the forum there if you haven't already.)
The [old] solutions didn't help in my case.
I tried to install Opus on another PC, but I didn't have this issue there (same OS, Skype & Opus versions).
However, if I had killed dopus.exe and then closed Skype, this still restarts Opus on the 2nd PC. Why does Opus restart when quitting Skype? Can someone confirm?
If I kill dopus.exe with taskmananger and then Quit Skype (Quitting Skype is always done by right-clicking the icon in the Task-bar), then dopus.exe is restarted in taskmanager. Skype is not launching any folders, it just restarts dopus.exe when closed (even when Opus is not set to be an Explorer Replacement)
Hello,
I use Skype 24/7 ( linked to Google Voice ) with my ancient GE Skype phone ( independent box, no computer needs to be on ) .
I also have a Dlink VOIP adapter that I use on occassion.
I'm still using Skype 4.1.32.179, but I don't run it at startup. I use it if I need to update contacts on the GE.
I know Skype has had some issues in the past month. There was a less than 24 hour down time for users of older versions of skype.
I'm not sure at all if I was really affected, but I did have to reset my phone at point in time near this.
I'll install the new version of Skype and play with it some .
The version I'm running doesn't kill DOpus at all when I quit Skype.
I'll report back after I play with it some.

If you first kill dopus.exe (from Task manager) and then Quit Skype (right-click taskbar), does dopus.exe restart by itself?
If Opus isn't set to replace Explorer then I can't think of any way Skype could start Opus except if it was intentionally launching it. Seems like something you should ask the makers of Skype.
One idea: Go to Preferences -> Launching Opus -> From the Desktop and disable launching Opus via desktop double-click. (You should now no longer see dopusrt.exe in Task Manager, assuming this was enabled to begin with.)
If that stops Skype from launching Opus then maybe Skype is doing something which makes dopusrt.exe think the desktop has been double-clicked and launch Opus.

Tried it, and quitting Skype still restarts Opus.
Note (again) that quitting Skype restarts dopus.exe on both my PCs (if dopus.exe had been killed).
However, quitting Skype with dopus.exe running, only causes the Explorer shell to crash on one of the PCs (the one that I am using).
I found a workaround:
Normally Skype shows in the Taskbar when closing (not quitting) the Skype Window.
I unchecked the Option to show Skype in the Taskbar, and Skype is now instead shown in the Notification area.
When I now quit Skype from the notification area, Explorer does not crash and dopus.exe does not restart (if it was previously killed).
It is very strange that dopus.exe is restarted when quitting Skype from the Taskbar but not from the notification area...
No it doesn't.
To clarify, right-click on the taskbar allows closure of the Skype window, but I still have the Skype icon in the system tray.
Right-click on that icon allows one to Quit Skype. In either case, killing dopus.exe and then either closing the skype window or quitting Skype does not restart dopus.exe.
I note that I do not start Skype at system startup. I start Skype manually when I need to use the Skype GUI.
I have a Skype phone that does not require Skype to be running on the computer or the computer to be on at all.
If I wish to make a call using my VOIP adapter and a 'normal' phone then Skype must be running.
I'm using Vista 32 bit here.
Could it have anything to do with 64 bit Windows 7 ?
My version of Skype does not have that option.
Are you using the business version of Skype ?
No, just v. 5.1.0.112 (on WIN7 64 bit). The option is in-between your 3rd and 4th option (I have 5 options)
Well, we're getting somewhere on this problem.
I was wrong in assuming that we were using different versions of Skype.
I'm also using Skype 5.1.0.112 but on Win Vista 32 bit.
One more thing that may ( or may not ) help GPsoft define this problem is your settings under the link on that page "Manage other programs' access to Skype'' .
I have ony my D-Link VOIP Adapter listed.
