Is it possible to force the refreshing of the icons associated with files after having modified them using the file type setttings of Opus.
right now i need to exit (kill) dopus and re run it to see the changes.

Opus caches the icons to speed things up. I don't think there's currently a way to tell it to rebuild the cache but you could ask GPSoft to add a command or make it happen automatically when you change the icons, at least if it's done within Opus.
