Just some tip for the forum, it would be great if these treads (questions + solutions) could be moved to some designated subforum regarding RegExp, it would become a wealth for everyone struggling with them.
I totally agree with Devilder on this one. I always search before posting a question.... I hate nothing more than reading the reply... "see this post". A separate forum for RegEx related questions would help me immensely. Perhaps it would also stop a lot of unnecessary posts with repeated questions.
@steve, well, I and many others DO search, but the problem with everything, especially quite option-filled software like DO, some threads are somewhat related, but 99.9% of support requests are pretty specific.
If there wasn't Leo who posted me 2 screenshots, I would still be struggling with DO constantly digging through my harddrives, even when I had set the option to not caculate folder sizes automatically, but then there were the "Folder options" for every single folder on the system, which ALSO do have to be configured as "Default", some (maybe all) are set as "Automatically" by default, and thus the folderssizes DID get calculated even though the main "switch" in the options panel was set to NOT do that.
I don't much value in moving every thread which mentions "regexp" or "regular expression" into a separate forum. People can just search for those things already.
We also have tutorial posts and a bunch of examples in the Rename Scripting forum. If something particular seems worth adding to those tutorials/examples then make a list and it can be added.
I don't see much point in a forum where people have to wade through esoteric regexp rename threads (like this one) which will only be useful to them if they want the exact same thing as what's in the thread, and which don't teach people how to build their own regexps. People can already find these threads by searching.
For people who don't know how to make their own regexps and don't want to learn or find them too confusing, threads like this one won't help them learn. Unless someone wants exactly the same thing as is covered by a thread like this then the thread is just going to get in the way, I would have thought. Yet threads like this one are an example of how the forum provides very quick answers whenever people ask for regexp help. So I'd say everything is fine as it is. People who need help get it quickly and people who want help learning have the tutorials and examples.
What would adding another forum do other than make people look in more than one place, make people post in the wrong place even more than they do already, and add admin overhead with moving posts around?
