I have two identical SSDs, one is my current working system and the other is a new installation that will replace the current.
Both are running on the same PC, the existing system Win 10 X64 was upgraded to the Anniversary Edition and the new one is being built using the Anniversary Edition. My issue is this, DOpus 12.2 X64 starts up immediately when it is first executed on my current system but usually takes between 5-8 seconds on my newly built system. Starting from the system tray is quick on both systems. I copied the existing complete configuration to the new build so I assume that is not the problem unless there may be some items that are not saved in the config. I have tried to compare the settings but as best as I can tell they are the same. So... same OS, same PC, same SSD, same 'I think' everything. I am not using prefetch on my existing system but am using it on the new build. Supposedly prefetch is not the default when installing on an SSD but it was enabled on both systems; I chose to manually disable it on my current system. And I have read that it really doesn't matter much if it is if you are using an SSD. Can anyone shed any light on this? 5-8 seconds isn't really "slow" and it only happens initially, but I like the old way.
[ul][li]A HDD has to spin up. (A few seconds, so definitely a candidate.)[/li]
[li]Slow or inaccessible network drive is being accessed. (Usually longer than just a few seconds, so may not be it, but could be if it's just slow and not inaccessible.)[/li]
[li]A shell extension. Shell extensions let other software run arbitrary code, so they can cause delays when reading folders, icons or right-clicking things. ShellExView can list and disable installed extensions.[/li]
[li]Antivirus scanning delaying things as it scans either the program itself or files it is examining.[/li]
[li]Toolbars that point to lots of icons in external programs can cause a delay as all the icons are gathered (also ties into the antivirus point).[/li][/ul]
Process Monitor can sometimes help tell where a delay is coming from, by showing what is being accessed during the delay, but it can also be like trying to find a needle in a haystack if there's a lot of other activity at the same time.
Thanks for the ideas Leo. The two systems are pretty much alike, in fact I have less installed on the new build, but I will check out your ideas. I was actually hoping it was DOpus because I knew you guys would know how to fix.
Thanks for the insight.
