Removable drives not appearing in tree or disc button

As the topic title says. I have two flash drives plugged in. Explorer sees them fine, but they're not appearing in the tree or in my drive buttons (Go DRIVEBUTTONS=labels, removable, hideempty). No, they're not empty

I can navigate straight to them by entering their drive letter and they work fine. Well one of them does, the other causes DOpus to crash, but that's a PDF problem that I already reported to GPSoftware...

Is there a new setting that I'm missing that is keeping these drives from showing up?

Maybe something weird if you have prevent automatic loading of certain types of drives, and empty drive settings. Clean out the args for your Go DRIVEBUTTONS button just as a test and see what happens... same for folder tree - enable empty drives - just to test. I have no reason to believe the prevent automatic loading stuff will affect removable drives (make them seem empty)... just rambling out some ideas for you to TEST.

Enabling empty drives did the trick, but my two thumb drives are definitely not empty!

Hrmm....

Assuming you're on Windows 7, do those drives appear in Explorer if it is configured to hide empty drives?

I have "Hide empty drives in the Computer folder" unselected, but drives still don't show for me if they are empty.

Don't appear where? There are separate options for the Computer folder, the tree & breadcrumbs bar, and drive buttons on the toolbar.

They don't show in my drives bar or folder tree and breadcrumbs bar.

The tree has its own setting in Preferences. The drives bar must have the hideempty argument on, if you edit the buttons on it.

I think it is already on. This is what I have.

Go DRIVEBUTTONS=cdrom,network,removable,hideempty

I meant the reason your drive buttons are not showing empty drives must be that they have the hideempty argument on them, not that you must add the hideempty argument to stop hiding empty drives (that would not make any sense!).

If you don't want them to hide empty drives, remove the hideempty argument.

OK. Great.
Thanks for the info, leo.

You have taught me something.

Strange, now both my thumb drives show up everyplace, even if the hide empty drives option is on!

Something fishy here

And now, after a system restart, they're all hiding again...

Assuming you're on Windows 7, do those drives appear in Explorer if it is configured to hide empty drives?

i.e. Is this an Opus problem or something else?

Yes I'm on 7, but I've never actually used Explorer. How can I set it to hide empty drives?

FWIW they're showing in Explorer now, but my empty virtual optical drives are not showing. These appear in DOpus when I show empty drives...

Wow, if you push ALT you get a menu in Explorer! Haha I've been using DOpus on Windows 7 since I loaded the early betas all those years ago...

OK I checked and yes, Explorer is set to hide empty drives and yes, the removable drives DO show up. But I still can't see them (predictably) in DOpus when I hide empty drives...

What kind of drives are these?

Some screenshots of what Opus and Explorer each show might help see what's going on.

They're both flash drives plugged into a powered USB hub on my desk.

No time for screenshots, leaving for work now. DOpus doesn't show them, Explorer does, not much to see

Screenshots are often useful even if you don't think they will be.

Please post some when you have time.

I came to post screenshots but the problem is hard to reproduce since it doesn't happen all the time :frowning:

As I explore more, it seems to be related to my iPod Touch. When it's plugged into my USB hub with my 2 flash drives, no removable drives appear on DOpus.
If I unplug the iPod and restart DOpus, or if I start DOpus with the iPod unplugged, the drives appear.

Also, it is noteworthy that the iPod appears in Explorer's "My Computer", but not in the DOpus "My Computer"
