Rename Multiple Files Question

Hello everyone,

This activity I typically perform 4x a week so I try to complete the task as efficiently and effectively as possible. I currently use Bulk Rename Utility to perform the task and it may take 40 seconds or less to complete so it is not a big deal. However, I would like to rely on DO to perform this task as easily as Bulk Rename Utility.

Here is what occurs:

I have a folder of existing files (2000+):

folder
YYB001.pdf
YYB002.pdf
YYB003.pdf
YYB004.pdf
YYB005.pdf
YYB006.pdf
YYB007.pdf

Now I receive additional files related to the contents of this folder (above) but the names are random and do not follow any conventional method of filing them.

example
45thx.pdf
098dssdd.pdf
230ddkz9.pdf
0033ffids.pdf

What I would do is have Bulk Rename Utility completely remove the names of the files then rename them as
YYB008.pdf
YYB009.pdf
YYB010.pdf
YYB011.pdf

That is it. The pattern I'm identifying does not deviate at all from what I have described.

Ideally, I would like DO to perform this menial task as easily and effectively as BRU. Can someone please help me?

Thank you.

The Add A Unique Number rename script should do what you want, if the built-in Sequential Numbering options in the Rename dialog don't do it already.

Wow, that was a quick response, thanks LEO. I will check it out.

Excellent, it does exactly what I need it to do. Thank you again Leo!
