-Replace All- button on copy-paste screen

I’d like to push back a little against those who are sort of suggesting (with the best intent) that pushing an extra shift key (or any key) is the more reasonable attitude towards using their laptop or PC. What @ousumu is saying now (and @sebastian 17 years earlier in this thread) still makes sense to me as an avid mouse-centric user. It is, among others, the reason I recently asked for the possibility to make the difference between clicking on the left or right side of a toolbar button - to which the Opus team responded positively. I am not as handy on the keyboard (even while I’m typing with all 10 fingers - I am by no means handicapped but my motoric skills are ever-so-slightly off-beat, lacking a certain precision and rapidity – I also circumvent double-clicking wherever I can).

So direct click-access to the most used functions is a real time-saver when I need to do lots of stuff on the computer. E.g. I hate it that in the Opus editor I always need to click on the triangle of the “Find All” button in order to access “Find All in All Opened Documents” - I wish I could make it the default (I never use the other option). That may be a logic or habit hard to understand for people with perfect ambidextrous motoric skills but not for me.

You can access the same thing using just the mouse as well.

We don’t plan to change how this dialog works. In particular, the strings barely fit in some languages as it is.

I know. I never asked to change it - no one is ever at the center of the universe. I just wanted to push back a little against those who did not seem to understand that Windows users are not by definition all that keybord-centric.

So can a script be used to automatically hold down Shift when this window appears?

No it doesn’t work that way. But you could use AutoHotkey I guess. Users like @jfour18 have experience with that.

Actually, I just need an optional setting to swap the positions of the two buttons—I don’t need both of them shown at the same time, as that would add unnecessary visual clutter.

+1 or some option in preferences allowing to choose what option to display first

We'll add an option to make Replace All the default in the next beta.

Awesome, really appreciate you adding this. Looking forward to the next beta!

Please see this post:

I requested that ‘Replaced’ files go to the Recycle bin, and was told that would be added to the list of feature requests.

In version 13.22.4 (Beta), I enabled the feature: Make "All" the default action in confirmation dialog. However, there is an issue: when the window loses focus, it toggles between "Replace" and "Replace All", which may lead to unintended operations.

Setting this issue aside, I absolutely love this feature. Thank you so much.

It’s so easy to click ‘Replace’ or ‘Replace All’ (if that’s selected in Preferences) by mistake and accidentally overwrite files!

Please make replaced items go to the Recycle Bin instead of being permanently deleted.

Or add a preference option to have replaced items go to Recycle Bin.

Or even better: Add a preference option to select the default. If that were available, I’d select ‘Rename All’.

@Leo @Jon

I understand why @ousumu likes the new feature, but because 'Replace' is still the default action, I would never use that new Preference because of the risk of permanently deleting files by accident.

Please consider adding a Preference for selecting the default action:

  • Replace
  • Replace All
  • Rename New
  • Rename New (All)
  • Rename Old
  • Rename Old (All)
  • Keep Newer
  • Keep Newer (All)
