Why am I unable to adjust my toolbar set THROUGH the user interface set and simply replace ?
I am always forced to create a new toolbar set one, delete the old, and set the new default every time ?

I'm not sure what you mean, sorry. Could you explain in some more detail?
If I try to save a toolbar set over an existing one, Opus asks if I want to replace it and then lets me if I say yes.
And you do not need to create a toolbar set to change the default toolbar set; you can just save your current toolbar configuration as the new default set.
I recommend renaming modified default toolbars (e.g. "My Operations", "My Menu",...) and leave the default ones untouched.
Advantage is that you can compare/copy new entries from updated default toolbars (e.g. on new DO-releases) to your toolbars and nothing will be renamed or overwritten by the update.
That's if you edit the toolbar directly through preferences, I am referring to the UI in the manager - customize - where I can create buttons and merge bars together etc. At the end I simply wish to replace.
I hope that clears things up. When I got to SAVE , there is no replace option that I can see.
You only can modify/create toolbars in customize mode.
If the toolbarname already exists, I get an error message here and need to rename it (please note that the filename of the toolbar is important, not the name you may see trough translation!). If you modify an existing toolbar (e.g. by adding or removing buttons), it will be changed/saved automatically (nevertheless you need to backup the config if you want to restore all settings sometime).
In this case we are talking about a toolbar set ... not the individual toolbars themselves.
If I can save it under a newly named toolbar set, I fail so to see why I can't simply replace the toolbar set I am modifying.
The Customize dialog lets you create and edit toolbars, but I can't think of any part of it that deals with Toolbar Sets.
Or is that what we're talking about? Do you mean you want to change which toolbars are visible using Customize, then have that saved as the default toolbar set? If so, you can do that directly in the lister and Customize is the wrong place to do it as you may have multiple windows open with different toolbars visible in each, and Customize is global to all of them and would not know which window's toolbar state to save as a new set.
Think of the lister as where you edit which toolbars are shown, and where. Think of Customize as something you use to edit individual toolbars, or to create or rename individual toolbars.
Now I am getting confused
I can customize the toolbars shown in the lister but that custimization will then disappear and won't remain permanent UNLESS (as far as I know) they are saved as a tool bar set which I can then make the default for all new listers.
But anytime I wish to modify that set in any small way thru the lister CUSTOMIZE, it seems I am forced to create a new toolbar set if I want to eventually make it the default one or to use it again.
I just fail to see why I can't simply replace the toollbar set I am using without creating a new toolbar set.
There is a SAVE TOOLBAR SET but it seems only capable of creating a new set and not replacing the one I am using.
Are you saying system constraints prevent this from being an option ?
When you use the Save Toolbar Set command, if you enter the name of an existing set it will ask you if you want to replace it.
hmmm, don't you think that there ought to be a selection arrow there to press ? but OK, thanks
Yes we probably should make that a drop-down list, thanks for pointing it out.
