Hi. I'm trying to save a dual pane Lister with a local folder in a 'list' format (rather than 'details') and an FTP site logged-in. There seem to be two problems:
(1) Saving the Lister does not retain the list format; when I re-open it, it goes back to the default ('details') layout. When I save the Lister, under 'Save This Lister', all boxes are unchecked, particularly 'Ignore folder formats...'.
(2) The FTP site is not saved; it defaults back to one of my local drives. Under Preferences, Folders, Auto-loading, FTP Sites is set to 'Load normally'.
I am new to Dopus so may be missing something in the otherwise excellent manual.
How do I make Dopus save these two characteristics in the saved Lister?
Thanks Leo. I set up the dual pane Lister the way I want and then go to Settings, Lister Layouts, Save This Lister and give it a name, in this case 'SACR-Dundee'. To reopen it, I right-click on the Dopus icon and select the saved Lister, SACR-Dundee.
Yes, I want this to open as a completely new Lister window.
When you save the layout (or when you look at one you've already saved in Preferences / Layouts and Styles / Layouts), there's an option to ignore folder formats, which is probably turned on.
Turn that off if you want the layout to override your normal formats, e.g. to get List mode when you usually want Details mode.
For the FTP site, if that one you have created an FTP Address Book entry for, and navigated to via the FTP menu? Or is it a site you've manually typed a URL into the path field to access?
The FTP Address Book method seems to work OK in layouts here, at least from a very quick test. (I haven't tried the other method.)
Thanks but I'd checked under Preferences, Layouts and Styles, Layouts and all the layouts including 'SACR-Dundee' have that option unticked (and it was unticked in the dialogue box when I saved the Lister).
The FTP site is saved as an address book entry (and a Favorite).
I notice that for both panes - local drive and FTP site, the Lister loads with the default settings, not the folder layout I saved with the Lister. Under Preferences, Folders, Folder Formats, Folder Type Formats, for 'FTP', this is ticked and for local drives it is unticked (i.e. I assume reverts to User Default). Any change I make to these here is reflected when I load the saved Lister. I suspect this might be relevant - something is stopping the layout being saved with the Lister?
Leo, thanks for your suggestions - they have helped me work out what is going wrong and as I suspected, it was pretty basic.
It is the Jump List from the Taskbar icon. When I right-click on the icon I get a Jump List that includes an entry 'SACR-Dundee'. This entry was not the saved Lister though, just a single folder. Apologies for the misleading statement in my first post. I've been experimenting with the Jump List in Preferences and it seems to be a Smart Favorite.
If I go via the menu items Settings, Lister Layouts, SACR-Dundee, it launches the correct Lister, exactly as saved.
New Listers, as you suggest I try, all save and reload correctly.
The problem was my assumption about the entry on the Jump List. I've cut it down in size so it now displays the saved Listers (which it didn't before because it was too long).
Thanks for your patience Leo; this has been a good learning curve for me though.
