I have a path format I wish to modify but it only has folders and not files in it

If I go down to one of the sub-folders with files, I can change and verify the multiple sort order by sight by selecting a folder where these opinions apply - those with the appropriate files.

However, it seems I cannot save this format to the original "path format" for the parent folder - merely select those among the favorites or save to the sub-folder path or default or all.

Am I missing something ? or do I have to copy some files to the parent to make it "work"

I think I am missing a detail so far. Why can't you set the multiple sort order in the parent folder? You can still set the sort order by clicking on the column headers even if the folder is completely empty.

You can also set the sort order via the Folder Options dialog if you prefer.

I can, but I am unable to VISUALLY verify the sorting because everything is a folder there. I had to copy files to that folder to visually verify

If you set things up in the child folder, then turn on the format lock and go up to the parent folder, the format lock will ensure the format stays as-is when you change folders. You could then save the format for that folder, and turn off the lock.
