Search-as-you-type Questions

I love the "search-as-you-type" feature in the lister. However, I have a couple of questions that don't seem to be addressed in Help.

ol Behavior changes when a character is repeated in the search string. For example, if I type "125" search can take me to a file named "125_1.txt". However, the search box will not accept something like "115". The input box refuses to accept the second "1" so, instead of taking me to "115_1.txt" it takes me to "100_1.txt" then moves to "100_2.txt", "100_3.txt" (and so on) as I repeatedly try to enter the second "1". Sometimes that might be desirable, but not in this case. Is there a way to change this behavior?

(2) How do you remove a filter? Using the filename example above, I entered *100 and it worked beautifully (only "100_1.txt, 100_2.txt and 100_3.txt appear in the lister). But is there a quick way to clear the filter? I'm sure it's something simple, but I can't find it in Help.[/ol]

  1. in -> options -> preferences -> miscellaneous -> advanced there is an option fayt_firstchar_repeat, which you can toggle. If i remember correctly, this will change the behaviour.

  2. I´m not sure, what you mean by clearing the filter, but a simple typed "**" will show all entries again.

Wow, one thing I've noticed right away is DOpus staff and users jump in very quickly to help!

  1. Got it.
  2. Works, thank you. Yes, very simple--once you know. (BTW, I say "clearing the filter" because * is in fact filtering out everything that doesn't match your search string. Help also refers to it as a filter.)

I wonder why these two pieces of information are not documented in Help?

Pressing * is an even quicker way to clear it.

Yes, ESC is quickest when the fayt box is still open. After the Find box auto-hides, ** seems a bit faster than *+ESC. Anyway, thanks for the tips. I'm sure new users would appreciate having this information available in Help.
