Searches always starting at c:

Hi!

When i´m searching for a file in drive "S", Dopus will still start to search from drive c: onward, which is quite annoying.

I am using a search function, which will search all fixed drives on this machine, c, d, e, f, g & so on. When mounting truecrypt drives or searching USB Stick, there is of course a new drive, so i basically try to
make dopus search only in that new mounted drive, not from c: on.

A very nice feature would be exclusion lists for the search function, or some "skip this folder" button.

I'm think I'm confused.

It sounds like you're telling Opus to search all of your drives but then annoyed that it's looking in C:?

If you want to search for things in S:\ just specify S:\ as the place to search.

That's obvious though so I think I've misinterpreted what you're saying. Could you clarify? Sorry if I'm being stupid or not reading your post properly.

hmm, i am not really sure, but here´s a screen shot:

It seems, like only "S" is selected in this case (&, as the history is showing, other previous searches on single drives), so it´s supposed to search only "S" then. The other search seems to be overridden, still it will start from C: on.

So i´m not sure, if this is Win XP, or the special button, which is causing this behaviour.

Of course, the drop down in your screenshot is covering the list below it, so we can't see what else you have selected - but in case you weren't aware, the Find tool lets you specify multiple folders to search, and any that are in the list below will also be searched as well as the one in the edit field. To clear this list completely, hold shift and press the clear button.

Well, no, of course i had to specify that drive first, via the browsing dialogue. That is, clicking on the yellow folder "search in" button & selecting that particular drive, which is only one. "All Drives" would be the search above "C:", in that dialogue.

That second screenshot clearly shows you you have selected more than one drive to search - as well as S: you have C:, D:, E:, F: and many others also in the list. Clear the list as I said in the previous post and just select S: if that's all you want to search.

I don´t know how, but the deleting doesn´t work here on XP/9.006. Shift Del just removes it temporarily, but after reopening the history it is all still there. I also tried this with admin rights (because normal Dopus runs under a normal user account).

I saw this (cannot delete history) since the version 8, i think, but it didn´t bother me. So maybe that is the real problem. Btw, the search button is modified by the command "Find in C: D: E: F: H: I: K: L: M:".

The drop-down history is separate from the list of folders to actually search. Ignore what is displayed in the drop-down.

It's not the history in the drop-down that matters or needs deleting. It's the list of folders below the drop-down, in the list.

(Edit: I replied at the same time as Jon. We're both saying the same thing.)

Well, thx again! I deleted those items by using the red "X" button, which worked. Deleting those by shift del, however, doesn´t seem to work here for some reason. Anyway, this problem is solved now

To delete them all you hold shift and click the same red X button that you use to delete a single item. Were you doing that or something else?

yes, you´re right. This was a misunderstanding, i guess. I pressed shift-del, like in Firefox. Like this i can quickly remove the standard drives (which will reappear in the next search session, what is nice) & search only one drive. thx!
