Searching for tags, why only for JPG?

I wonder, why i can make tags or user descritions for all kind of files to be displayed, like TIFF or EXE, but won't be able to find any of those files in my search functions. Is there a way to change that, maybe using some third party helper tool?

As i remember, Windows' own search system for tags or keywords has some limitations, so i guess, that's why. I have tried both, the FIND command in Opus, which i use for my normal search in photo tags, and also the dedicated search panel, but couldn't get my test files to be found.

The Opus Find tool will let you search for them.

It doesn't find my test files. I have a TIFF in the test folder, using description equals mydesctestname, the locations set to the right path, the drive in question all indexed, but no findings.

Sorry, Jon, you were right of course. Sort of. Something very strange here. I have one lister, that does not find the files. Then i have another lister, with the identical (?, still researching) settings, that does not find them. I have them side by side, and cannot figure out, what could possibly be the reason. I will look further into it.

Edit: the only difference i found so far, lies in the types or names of the listers i am using. The one that does find the tags in the two test files, one being a TIFF, the other an EXE, has no layout or style name.

The other lister, which has the layout or style name (sorry, i am not sure, which one it is) in the title bar, is the one that doesn't return any findings. I will investigate further, try out some other layout as the base for my search. Otherwise, all settings are identical, down to the exact search path.

If you want to post a screenshot of how the two find panels are configured I can see if I can notice anything. Also could you have filters active that hide the results?

Yes, i could do that. But i found something else, which might be of interest, and shed some light on this strange effect. If i output the results to "Suchergebnisse" (search results) - no findings. If i change it to "Suchergebnisse (1)", or actually any other existing collection in the list, it just works. Can i safely delete that (supposedly) standard collection, to see, if it would be rebuilt correctly?

Yep, mystery solved. You were right about the filters, i didn't notice. First i looked up my collections, then had a look at the collection in question. Sure enough there was one single hidden file, which in all tests was the searched item. I have no idea, why or when i could have hit that area, which hides stuff.

Sorry for the confusion. :beers:
