When multiple files are selected in DO, if I single click one file within the selected files, it would rename that file.
In Windows explorer, single clicking a file within a group of selected files will select that file, instead of renaming it. To rename it, single click that file again.
What often happens, for example, is that I would copy a bunch of files to a location. Then, I want to work with a single file within them so I single click that file, but DO starts renaming it, instead of just selecting it. And for example if I want to cut that file, I would cut the filename instead of the file itself. (I'm aware of the "automatically select the newly copied files" option.) Therefore, I have to wait for it to enter rename and then single click again to just select the file.
Is there way to get the Explorer's behavior?
PS: A similar thing was discussed here, but it's different from this because in my case it's concerning selecting one file within a group of selected files, not just any file selection.
I have both of these set to false and a file type event attached to middle-double-click of "Copy DUPLICATE" in order to get a rename off of a double-click. YMMV.
This doesn't solve the problem because this also disables single clicking a selected file to rename, which I want (also the behavior of Explorer).
I think to solve this, there needs to be a way to distinguish "multiple files being selected" and "single file being selected". For the former case, single clicking "refines" selection by selecting that clicked file, instead of renaming.
As for details mode, how about a key modifier option that would allow reselection of a selected file/folder within a group of selected files/folders without entering inline rename ?
I'm thinking perhaps Alt + single click.
The idea is that this would then reselect the file/folder under consideration and deselect all others.
Depending on your settings in Preferences / File Display Modes / Details / File selection / highlighting style, you may also click on other parts of the row to select the file.
