I delete my files / folders to the recycle bin first. This gives me an opportunity to recover if I do something dumb. When I decide to empty the recycle bin I would like to be able to selectively choose files and have them securely wiped. How would I go about this or is it even possible? Thanks.
Once a file is in the Recycle Bin, you would have to restore it first to be able to secure-wipe it.
Norton used to have a "secure recycle bin" feature, if I remember correctly, but I can't remember exactly what it did and I don't know if they still do it.
A better way might be to move the files you want to wipe to a directory and then secure-wipe that at the end, once you're ready. As long as the directory is on the same drive, the file will just be renamed and not copied.
Note that secure wipe makes less and less sense as time goes on and we move more to SSDs. It probably doesn't make sense to use on an SSD and using it a lot on one could reduce its life.
Thanks
