What are the steps to reproduce that?
There is usually a speed indicator and time remaining when copying files to/from sftp, if that is what's happening (not double-clicking a .tgz archive on a sftp site or something else).
I got opened sftp lister and then drag a .tgz file out of it to the Desktop.
If you drag to an Opus window showing the desktop folder, instead of the desktop itself, you should get a better progress dialog.
I've made a note to see if we can improve the dialog when dragging to the desktop, but it may be complicated by the drag & drop mechanism that the download has to work within when it isn't Opus on both ends.
