I try to take advantage of this Smart Favorites System, but I cannot figure out a how it should work. The manual doesn't say much about it.
Here is my understanding; The "Folder Activity Point Threshold:" adds the current folder to smart favorite list once the accumulated folder activity point has reached. I set the threshold to 5, which covers most of the activity, but it is not adding any new folder (ie my current folder, and I double clicked, which yields 8 points). Even if I copy & paste within the current folder, it is not adding the current folder to the smart favorite list.
If I remove some of the smart favorite entries through the Favorite List dialogue, some new entries (don't know how it was generated) are added to the smart favorite list (keeping it 10 entries), but it is not the most current one I tried to add to the smart favorite system.
What is this "Reference Table Size: 100" entry ? Some kind of buffer to keep the smart favorite entries ? How do I access/view entries 11-100 ?
Also, about the Recent List, what is the trigger to add a folder to the recent list. It doesn't seem very consistent to me.
If I can understand how these Smart Favorites, Recent List works, that would save me a lot unnecessary work creating buttons, tabs, file collections etc.. Any input is appreciated, or if anyone can direct me to some more detailed tutorial about these subjects.
The "reference table size" is the number of folders Opus keeps track of points for. As you move around doing things, this table is constantly updated, with the lowest point-scoring folders discarded in favor of new, more popular folders.
The "activity point threshold" is the number of points a folder has to score in order to be considered for display in the Favorites menu. So if this is set to say 40, a folder must have scored at least 40 activity points to be displayable.
The "number of folders" is the maximum number of items that will be actually be displayed in the (Smart Favorites section of the) Favorites menu, assuming their accumulated points is more than the threshold. So if you set this to say 10, the ten top-scoring folders will be shown, assuming their score is above the threshold.
Therefore if you want to show all the folders Opus is tracking, simply increase "number of folders" to match the table size, and decrease the threshold to 0.
Addendum: A folder is also not displayed in the Smart Favorites list if it is also present in the (user-added) Favorites list. Since the two lists are intended to be displayed in the same drop-down menu there is no point listing the same folder twice.
Thanks for info. I kind of get the idea now. To further clarify my situation; Let say, if I had a group of very active folders (say 15 of them) and they all score very high marks beyond the threshold (say 5 point). Now if I access a totally new folder, and make it to score more than 5 points, it won't show up on the smart favorite list (say set at 10), even through it is the most recent addition, because there are 15 other folders that have very high scores. Am I correct ?
What about the Recent List ? What is the trigger to add to the list ?
The recent list is just a straight list of places you have been, in last-in-first-out order. It's kind of like the back/forward history list but on a global basis instead of per-Lister. If you have the 'Ignore folders that are only transited' option on (it is on by default) then you need to actually do something in the folder for it to go into the list - simply passing through the folder on the way to another one won't do it.
Can you clear/reset the smart favorite list, so that it start fresh with all folders score 0 ?
I setted the Number of Folders and Reference Table Size to both 10 (so I should be viewing all the tracking folders), and the remove all the Smart Favorite entries through the Favorites List dialogue. Immediately after that, I check the Favorites List from the drop down manual, Opus populate itself with another Smart Favorites list. If I go to Favorites List dialogue now, it shows this new Smart Favorites List.
By "root", you mean the folder named "SmartFavorites" ? Just want to make sure I am not deleting any critical system element. So, if I delete this "root", it will re-generate a fresh list once I start to have some folder activities ?
