Question [1]
Is it possible to remove filenames from thumbnail view? I simply want my thumbnails to appear by themselves. I can switch off every other piece of text except for the filename. If I want the filename and extra info I would prefer to get that from a tooltip.
Question [2]
Why do the F keys fail to function when I do not have the Lister Menus visible? If I enable the ListerMenu Toolbar then they work, otherwise nothing happens. I was wondering why F1 would not open the Help and F5 would not refresh the lister until I noticed this behaviour.
I am evaluating dopus 9 because I am totally fed up with Vista's automatic file sorting (dopus' optional equivalent is "File Operations->Options->Automatically sort new and modified files") along with the fact I got tired of Vista forgetting my folder view settings, so for example, I'd get non image folders randomly appearing as thumbnails when I had never viewed them as thumbnails etc. I used to use dopus on the Amiga years ago, so it's very good to see it still around. Life became rather difficult when I had to switch to MS Windows, all those years ago.
Opus has two types of hotkeys:
[ol][li]Standalone hotkeys, which you can only see via Settings -> Customize -> Keys, and which are always available. (There are two types of these as well: Normal ones which only work when an Opus lister is active and System-Wide ones which work no matter which window or program is active.)
[/li]
[li]Toolbar hotkeys, which are defined by toolbar buttons and menus. You can also see these in the Customize -> Keys list (depending on which toolbars you have open) but their definitions are stored with their toolbars. The advantage is that you don't have to define the same command twice, you just add a hotkey to an existing button or menu item. It also means you can have hotkeys for toolbars that aren't always active.[/li][/ol]
So if you want to turn off the menu bar you will have to re-create the hotkeys that were in that menu, or at least the ones you want to keep, as standalone hotkeys, via the Customize dialog.
Note that you can do this fairly quickly in the Customize dialog by selecting the Toolbar hotkeys and clicking Duplicate, then assigning the same key to the new thing. That will create a standalone hotkey with the same command and other details.
I can see the logic now in the Keys functionality and it makes perfect sense.
I hope that the option to remove filenames from thumbnails view is something that gets added. I would just love to see my pictures folder as a grid of simply just the picture thumbnails - with very little spacing.
One other thing is that I don't seem to be able to sort file objects by group in tiles lister mode. For example, I like "My Computer" to be sorted according to Type and then Name in a layout exactly like the picture below, where you see Hard Disk drives separated from Removable Drives.
So far, I'm pretty impressed with the way dopus has turned out. I've had some weird graphical glitches at times but the level of customisation is great. I can see a dual license purchase coming.
