Not sure what I may have done but I now have a grouping in the folder tree named Desktop which contains mostly desktop items but also contains OneDrive and DropBox folders. I don't think this is right. Any insights? Cal
The same in File Explorer, presumably?
The Folder Tree layout under Desktop is defined by Windows. We make some changes to it but not many (although we're thinking about adding some more control here, as Microsoft keep cluttering the thing with redundant or useless folders in each Windows release).
Worth noting that WinAeroTweaker gives control over those sections in Explorer and explains how they do it on their site
A lot of it is in the registry, and removing it there should affect Opus the same as Explorer.
Although some software will just add it back again.
Nope. There is no such Desktop folder in the folder tree in Explorer.
I was cleaning up some OneDrive stuff when I noticed the Desktop folder in DO. Wasn't sure if it was always there (don't think so but then again I don't pay much attention to what is below Favorites). Thought perhaps I had inadvertently borqued something.
The desktop folder is the conceptual root folder for the shell namespace, and that branch in the folder tree in Opus represents the shell namespace. Explorer used to show it like that too, but at some point in the past they changed it to de-emphasise the desktop by default and make it "just another folder", by bringing its children up to the top-level.
The Show all folders option in Explorer puts the desktop back at the root like it used to be.
That helps.
I used Folder Tree - Contents to streamline my folder tree. Could not find a way to eliminate the Desktop entry though. I would as soon use Quick Access and Favorites at this point for some of the stuff in the Desktop dropdown. Not a biggie by any stretch. Just Desktop closed.
Thanks again.
