I've switched jobs recently and would like to use my usual Dopus tool there. Problem is, installers are restricted, but we are authorized to use stand-alone programs (the kind that does not need an install and does not touch the Windows registry).
Could the USB export function be an option? How does it work? Does one need to keep a USB key connected at all times? Because I don't think that's allowed either, if USB keys are allowed at all.
Is there any way to buy just a standalone version that runs from a single computer?
As a side question: are the regular licenses offered on the website compatible with a professional environment?
A USB export is the only (supported) way to use Opus on a computer without installing it.
You would still need to install Opus on another computer, e.g. at home, in order to create the USB export. (You could uninstall it afterwards, but you'll probably want to keep it installed as it's also how you'll update the USB copy when new versions come out.)
USB exports require the USB key they were saved to to be plugged into the machine when Opus is launched. (If you tick the "dongle" option when exporting to a USB key, the copy of Opus does have to be on the USB key and you can move it to your HDD, but the USB key still has to be present when you launch Opus.)
There's currently no (supported) method of running Opus on a machine without either installing it or using a USB storage device.
Yes, in general. You can read the licence terms if you're wondering about anything specific. The option of volume licensing, and the free personal laptop licence (which doesn't apply for business use), are two potential differences between personal and business use.
