The only thing missing now is VuePro's ability to crop. I've already figured a work-around for that with Paint. What I can't figure out though, is how to modify the context menu. Once I learn that, I want to add an "open with Paint" or some such command. Is that possible?
Thank you, Leo. Another perfect (and better than I thought I wanted) fix. All of this work-around now functions as good or better than I had it with VuePro.
While the Help file for DOpus 10 may not be complete, it answers a lot of the basic questions.
Entering the word "crop" into the DOpus help file is quicker, albeit probably not much when Leo is awake, seemingly 24 hours a day, than asking here.
And throwing "Viewer" into Help shows "Standalone Viewer" as the top entry.
Thank you. I hadn't had any luck with Help in the past and just quit using it. You've just changed my habits. That's pretty powerful. I'm glad you put your two cents worth in.
I know what you mean. DOpus 10 arrived with a black hole of a Help file. But, thanks to Leo, I now know that there have been incremental increases in the amount of stuff it contains.
Unfortunately, this doesn't always, if ever, make it into the release notes for new versions.
It was only when you asked that I threw those words into the Help engine. I confess that I was surprised by the detail it threw up.
I finally got VuePro to work by using a copy of an executable of my son's. But, now that I've fallen in love with the built in viewer and all it's scrolling files via mouse wheel and cropping ability, I would like to be able to switch between it and VuePro at will without having to go through:
Turn on Preferences / File Operations / Double-click on Files / Use internal picture viewer for: all recognized pictures.
each time.
Is it possible to have a button that will toggle the "Use internal picture viewer for:" check box?
You don't need to toggle the option on and off, just make buttons (or context menu entries or whatever) that explicitly run the Opus viewer (Show command) or VuePro ("C:\Path\To\VuePro\VuePro.exe" {filepath$}).
Leo, I think I still need to learn the "button making" basics. I'm having a nightmare of a time trying to grasp how it all fits together. I'm rather lost as to what to do with those commands. I'd like to find a tutorial on just plain button making to see if I can come out of the fog in this area.
Also, aside from wanting to do what you suggested, I still like the idea of being able to toggle the check box I was talking about, not on an individual case basis, but rather to switch one way or another on a quasi permanent basis.
FWIW I like to have the FastStone MaxViewer configured as my default viewer, but many times I'll want to use the Opus viewer instead. Rather than making a button to toggle registry settings, I just have one simple button in Opus that opens the selected image(s) in the Opus viewer instead of FastStone. That simple button is below.
I'm pretty sure there's a tutorial on button making here somewhere, if not a tutorial then for sure a topic in the FAQ section. In a nutshell just right click over an empty area of a toolbar and choose Customize from the context menu. Once you're in customize mode, right click again over an empty area of a toolbar and choose New then Button. Set it up like the screen shot below and you'll have a button all ready to show you images with the Opus viewer.
Thanks to all, I've learned (at least the preliminaries) how to create a button to use the internal viewer and think I understand how it works. It does work great but I have to click it each time I want to use it, and at that, first have to select the pics to be viewed. It does not allow the scroll wheel to switch between unselected pics like the native setting does.
I still would like to create a toggle button that would check/uncheck the "File Operations/Double-click on Files/Use internal picture viewer for:" checkbox AND change the corresponding drop-down box to "all registered pictures". Can this be done?
