Startup Issue

Hello,

I just purchased Directory Opus 8 (v8.2.2.5), and I'm having one slight issue with starting the program up. I do not have Directory Opus set to start with Windows.

When I click on the Quick Launch (or Start Menu entry, for that matter) icon to start the program, I get a brief hourglass, but otherwise nothing seems to happen.

If I look at the Task Manager a dopus.exe process was started.

If I click on the Quick Launch icon a second time, Directory Opus starts.

If I then close Directory Opus, the process stays active. If I end the process and try to start Directory Opus again, I get the hourglass with no startup, but the process does reappear. I have to click on the Quick Launch icon a second time to run the program.

What is going on? I am using Windows XP x64, which I know isn't exactly on the supported OS list, but this problem still boggles my mind.

I guess I could potentally solve the problem by having Directory Opus start with Windows, but is that absolutely necessary?

On a side note, why doesn't the process close when Directory Opus is closed?

Opus is not the Lister - the Lister window does not represent the whole program. When Opus is running you can open one or many Listers, or have none open and still use the program via floating toolbars or hotkeys. Therefore Opus remains resident in memory until you exit it using the Close PROGRAM command (by default this is on the tray icon context menu.)

You can configure what Listers if any open by default when the program starts via Preferences. See the manual for more information on this.

Awesome. I fixed the problem with your suggestion.

I had to change the Startup setting from "Open the Listers that were open when the program was last closed" to "Open a saved Lister layout".

The reason was that I turned off the updating of the Default lister when you closed the program.

Now everything works great! Thanks!
