Startup Issue

Every now and again when I start the computer and access DOpus for the 1st time by double clicking on the desktop, DOpus opens and the two listers are displayed but there is no content. If I then click the X button to close DOpus, and then click on the Directory Opus in the Start list all is well. This happens a couple of times a week. More annoying than anything else. Any ideas of what may be happening?

Which folders are set to open by default? Are they network folders or anything like that?

Do you have Opus set open a fixes set of folders or to re-open the same folders which were displayed when it was shut-down?

Any message saying "Push F5 to refresh" or similar? (You'd see that if Opus is set not to auto-read the type of folder.)

Hi Leo
When DOpus re-opens after reboot it uses the same folders as when it was closed.
There are no F5 to refresh messages, just the mouse cursor going to the busy symbol continuously but it changes to the arrow in the title bar to allow me to close DOpus.

Is there a connection between the folders it's trying to load and the problem?

e.g. Does it only happen when either or both of the last-used folders are network drives?

(It might not be anything to do with network drives. That's just an example off the top of my head.)

Since it works okay if you restart the program, which would cause the same folders to be loaded, my guess is that during boot some part of the OS isn't ready yet and loading those folders causes the request to be sent via that unready component with the request never completing and Opus waiting forever.

How long have you waited before closing Opus? If you can, try leaving things for 10 minutes and see if an error message eventually appears. If it's an operation with a long timeout, like some COM and Network operations, then it could look like Opus is waiting forever when it will eventually give up. The error message could be useful in understanding what's going on.

Before I close Opus I alway leave it with local drives loaded (C: & G: are the usual) to avoid the problems that can happen.
The longest I have waited is a few minutes but I will leave it for a lot longer the next time it happens to see what, if any, error messages appear.

Thanks Leo

Another thing to try, next time it seems to get stuck, is running Process Monitor to see if dopus.exe is accessing anything.

OK, I'll give that a shot, thanks
