Stopping Dopus loading icons for downloaded exe files

Can I stop Dopus from reading the icons from items in my download folder?

Its taking a bit of time to get all the icons to show in the folder lister...

The delay is caused by your antivirus scanner.

There is an option to display generic icons but it can't be set per-folder at the moment.

We also have a Set ICONS=Off command which a script could run before changing to the folder, if you'd be OK with having no icons at all in that folder.

Icon loading should happen on a background thread and not get in the way of anything else, unless the antivirus which is causing the delay is also doing something which blocks the entire program from continuing, which is possible.

The only antivirus I have running is Windows own Defender so Im not sure its that but it is a bit slow to scroll at the start once I click on the folder but after a while its fine again.

Not sure whats happening there.

Current versions of Windows Defender are absolutely abysmal in this regard, yes. They affect Explorer as well, and you can find many threads with people complaining about similar issues around the web.

It's not a good antivirus, but it's free and comes with the OS, so it is what it is.

So its probably nothing we can do about it in Opus then? Apart from using another free AV

All we can really do on the Opus side is avoid loading the icons at all.

It's not perfect for sure, but actually i'm quite happy with Windows Defender.

Some reading material:

The delayed icon loading is present here too, but i have categorized my downloads in subfolders so there aren't often many of them together, and as mentioned it doesn't appear to get in the way of things. Small price to pay for relative safety?

Also, i don't know if you're using software specific columns like Company, Version Info, and Module Description and such. But as those also seemed to take some time to load, and since i only really need those on-demand, i created a Folder Format preset for programs instead to quickly enable extra columns when necessary. Plus a Folder Format menu button in the toolbar to quickly access the preset.

Thanks for the link - Will read it.
