Store syncronize settings

Greetings,

Ive had a quick search through the forums and cant find what i'm after, which is a way of saving syncronise settings.

Simple example is I want to have some way of Directory Opus remembering my sycnronise settings from the source and destination folders, the mode being one way copy, hide unaffected files, syncronise subfolders so all I have to do is click compare and then synronise when happy with the results.

Also it would be nice if the syncronise button had a confirmation prompt if its possible?

Kind regards,

BS

Apart from the folders, the sync settings are remembered automatically. (Though there is no way to store more than one set-up if that's what you mean. It just remembers how things were the last time it was used.)

For the folders you can use a Layout or Style to save/restore the two folders you want plus turn on the sync panel.

Thanks for the response leo, is it possible for this to be added to the requested new features, I personally purchased the product instead of seperate file manager and syncronisation software, I'm sure many others use this product to regularly syncronise backups in different folders.

Kind regards,

BS

If you want something added to the request database you should write to GPSoftware here:

gpsoft.com.au/Support.html

What's missing, though? Layouts/Styles let you set-up one-click buttons which will open a lister (if it's a layout) or modify the current lister (if it's a style) displaying whichever two folders you want, with the sync panel on, and all you then do is click Compare/Sync.

(For very simple one-way syncs you can also use the Copy UPDATEALL and UPDATEEXISTING commands to fully automate things.)

Being able to store the lister including the source and destination is suffice for my requirements but ideally the additional feature would be to add the ability to store the elments stored under the "Options" with the lister, this would ensure that the syncronise by date or byte comparrison syncronisation and mode being one way for example are what you wanted rather than just what was left over from the previous sync.

BS

Ps, overall I am very impressed with the functionality of this product, mostly im trying to prevent my own mistakes by having only to check the sync setting once.

You appear to have a useful product. However you folks have a really strange environment where Sync setups are not required to be stored with layouts. I have many folders that require synchronization with different sync settings. I can’t even begin to imagine why they were excluded. Their exclusion makes you product’s Sync functionally useless in my environment where a mistake in a setup could generate hours of recovery effort. Best I can tell the issue has not been resolved in version 10.

I agree, sync needs "full concetration" to avoid mistakes, I requested it too some time ago. But for simple sync-processes it's ok (where's the limit between a filemanager and a sync-tool?), for real complex sync I use an external tool which I have fully implemented into DO's environment.

What tool are you using?

SyncBackPro, you can create profiles which can be used in DO's buttons, don't needs to be installed (I included it in DO's backup-file), it can access devices by their name (so the letter of extenal devices doesn't matter - really great!) and offers lots of sync options. It can't be used to backup sys/mbr like TrueImage, but supports shadow-copying and other things.
