Stored Filters: Add Description Tooltip Please

Stored Filter names are often insufficient to explain exactly what the filter does.
Please add Descriptions to Stored Filters to be displayed in a Tooltip, just as they were recently added for rename Presets.

(I had a related request on my wish list for quite some time but then regarding to current max. 51 allowed positions for preset names. Since some requests have been talking about description, I think it's a good time to it up too, but I'll start my own feature request post as not to hi-jack yours).

Filters can already have descriptions (you can assign and view them through Preferences), but in the next beta we'll make them visible as a tooltip in the dropdown list as well.

I assume that if one exports and shares a Rename preset as an .orp file, the description is in the .orp file, so the recipient will get the description along with the rename preset. Is that correct?

I share Filters by sharing the text version, but one cannot export Filters.

Is there a way to add the Filter Description to the Filter text so that the Description could be shared with the Filter text?

And not by adding the Description text as a line in the Filter. Maybe a 'Description' clause?

While you're on that, can you make it so that Filter Groups remember their /collapsed or expanded state? Rename preset groups remember their collapsed or expanded state.

I'm constantly scrolling to find and select a filter.

We've added a Share function in the next beta which will include the description. We'll also make the preset management dropdown remember collapsed group state for filters and other things.

I just tested it and it's great....except that when the Stored Filters are open, the expand/collapse icon is very far to the right.

When the stored Filters list is open, it is not possible to see the expand/collapse icon AND the group name:

I just added some descriptions, and the field is very long, which results in horizontal scrolling. Perhaps move the Expand/Collapse icons to the left?

It should not be possible to get a horizontal scrollbar there. I can't seem to make it happen.

What steps do you take to get the scrollbar to show?

I'm not sure what I did to make the scrollbar show.

So, in an effort to help you, I:

  • Removed the descriptions I added because they used horizontal space.
  • Uninstalled 13.23.5
  • Installed 13.23.4
  • Opened the list of Stored Filters. No scroll bar.
  • Re-installed 13.23.5 .
  • Opened the list of Stored Filters (without any Descriptions). There was a scrollbar.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can investigate for you.

BTW, when adding a Description to Stored Filters in Preferences, fewer characters are allowed versus adding the Description in the Utility Pane.
