Strange file display in Opus 10

Recently a friend asked me to solve a strange problem with Opus 10 on his computer. All the file names arbitrarily change from their normal display to the DOS type of display i.e. "JavaScript" -> "JAVASC-1". I couldn't help him, as I have never had that problem myself. I am still on Opus 9.5. All I could ascertain was that if the application was closed down and then restarted, the problem would go away, for a short time.

Has anybody else faced this in Opus 10.x?

Amitava

That is usually caused by trying to bypass the licence check in Opus.

Yeah. That's very likely with this guy! I'll tell him to go back to Explorer or buy a licence. Thanks

This sudden change to dos type of file naming just happened to me. However, I don't see how I've violated Opus license check when I have a first time 60 days trial account (10.0.4.0.4444.x64) which only expires on 30th May 2012.

Could this be a bug or is it Opus way to discourage people from trying their product?

I hope I'm about the latter part.

There aren't any know bugs in this area.

Try reinstalling Opus over the top of itself.

If you have used any tools or config changes to try to extend the evaluation period or block the licence check then they may have left things on the machine which are causing problems, but if you haven't then a reinstall over the top of the existing version is the best thing to try.

Don't uninstall first as that would delete your config.

Also, make sure your installer is digitally signed by GPSoftware (see FAQ for how to verify it)

I have a license for DOpus 10 and several days ago the same thing happened to me. All files and folders names were displayed in 8.3 format. Windows restart (or even DOpus restart) helped so I didn't bother to write about it on the forum. I couldn't remember what I did before this happened.

I just remembered what was that about.
I installed DOpus on my notebook (which I very rarely use) and installed license certificate - the same that I use on my main computer. License say that I can use the same license on personal laptop so I thought it was ok. Of course any kind of restart didn't help. I just turned off my laptop and used only my main computer up to now.
Now I can see that filenames are still messed up on my laptop (8.3 format).

You can use your licence on a laptop; it won't be that which is causing the problem.

If that helps, here's a list of applications that I may had installed on my laptop before the problem occurred: [I don't know whether this sentence is pure english and correct but I hope you get what I mean]
MPI.NET SDK
MPICH2
Microsoft HPC Pack 2008 SDK
All for x86 (32-bit Vista Business).

So this happens on your laptop as soon as Opus starts after a reboot (not a sleep/hibernate)?

Please link your account and I'll send you some things to try.

Sleep is OK. It just happened in all open DOpus windows when I unplugged power cable. New listers also contains 8.3 filenames. Plugging cable doesn't help unless I restart DOpus (right click on tray icon -> exit).

Thanks. Actually, those extra details give me something to look into, in case the power-state change is triggering something. Maybe there is a bug in there. I will take a look at the code.

Can you remember if that happened on the same boot as when the licence file was installed? (i.e. No reboot between installing the licence and the problem happening.)

I got confused as your 2nd post had a typo, I guess. (1st post said restarting helped, 2nd next said it didn't, last one says it did.)

So restarting Opus does cured the problem for you, right?

Has the problem happened since you fixed things by restarting, or does everything seem okay now?

My first post was about what I observed several weeks ago and actually I didn't remember what exactly happened.
I rebooted several times after license was installed and same problem occurred.
Restarting Opus (when the power cable was plugged) solved the problem.
Problem happened each time I unplugged power.
... until I realized that I used an old version of DOpus - 10.0.1.x.
I just installed 10.0.4.0 and it seems to solve the problem.

Oh, okay. Probably nothing to investigate in that case. Let us know if the problem does come back, though.
