Suggestion - Allow user to specify update download location

It is disappointing that DO downloads updates into an unknown location of it's own choosing.

This is unfortunate. Not only is this generally bad manners, but it also means that a user will probably not have access to the latest (just downloaded) version of DO when they inevitably need to re-install DO (after being forced to re-install Windows).

Yes, it is possible to search for this download and move it somewhere sensible, it's just a pity that DO doesn't offer this as a setting option in Preferences. Additionally, if the user copy or move the update before re-installing Windows, then the update download will likely have been lost, meaning the user will need to install an old version of DO and go through the update process again. Inefficient.

My suggestion would be that the location be specified here.

Just a thought

The built-in updater is all about automation, simplification and convenience for people who want download & install the update in as few clicks as possible.

If you want to control where the installer is downloaded to, and keep it for later re-installs (or other machines), grab it via the website instead. (That's what I do myself for the same reasons.) It's exactly the same download, whichever way you choose to get it.

Thanks for responding. I still think it's a good idea...

If you've been forced to reinstall Windows the time it takes to download Opus again will pale besides the 800 MB of windows updates you'll immediately need

LOL So right

I had a Microsoft MVP post a message recently (on a forum where I had posted a query) saying how wonderfully easy and quick it was to re-install Windows 7...

Do you think they just install Windows and never use any other software? Just getting iTunes to work properly with my iPhone again usually takes days after a re-install.

Thanks for the smile jon.
