There doesn't seem to be a way to have the filter clear when you change folders, is it possible?
Try Preferences / File Displays / FAYT and Filter Bar Options / Clear Quick filter automatically when changing folders.
That works with the Filter Bar. I think it will work with the legacy toolbar filter fields as well, although it is a while since I have used them.
Ah sorry, should have mentioned I already have that option enabled.
It works when I have the "quick filter" option selected, but I use "files and folders"

my setup:
The old toolbar fields are considered legacy at this point, and were almost removed entirely.
Our focus is on the filter bar, so if you're still using the old fields their behavior and options may not change now, although we'll keep it in mind in case we're working in that area and can quickly make some changes at the same time.
Better than nothing I suppose
