They are thumbnails, not icons.

Yes, turn off Preferences / File Display Modes / Tiles / Thumbnails in tiles.

You can also configure the Text File Thumbnails viewer plugin to make it exclude filetypes or change the color of their thumbnails so they stand out from other text files.
