Unable to connect to local host

Hi all,

When I attempt to create a new Flickr account from the preferences dialog I get the standard "Please wait - Communicating with Flickr..." message followed a few seconds later by "Unable to connect to remote host".

Any suggestions why this is ...? I have run it several times but I get the same message every time.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Probably the same problem as the similar error you mention with update checks, so let's keep everything in that thread (unless it turns out the fix only works for one thing and not the other):
