I am having problems with my USB version of Opus so I decided to backup all the files, format the memory stick and copy the files back... it didn't work.
When I launch Opus I am asked to enter my certificate details. I assumed that the stockcert.txt file on my home version was all I needed so I dashed home to get it but that failed saying "The Program Certificate is not valid". The text I entered did include the BEGIN and END lines.
I'm guessing I have another certificate at home somewhere but I don't know where
If I have to use explorer for the rest of the day I'll end up going crazy so can someone explain where I'm going wrong please...?
When you use the USB Export function in Opus it exports your certificate and encrypts it for the device you're exporting to (so that someone can't steal your Opus by copying it off your USB stick). Reformatting the USB stick will change the values that Opus uses to encrypt the certificate, so you'll need to do another USB export from Opus to make it work again.
Right, that explains, I'll go home again and export my main version. Once exported can I replace the new files with the old ones so I don't lose all my custom stuff...? Please say yes
I spoke too soon. I've only just noticed that my right click context menus are identical to my home version and not customised for my work purposes as they were prior to formatting the USB stick.
Other things such as alt double clicking on a jpeg used to open the file in Photoshop but now it's looking for GIMP (my chosen image editor for use at home.) Likewise, a double click on a text document is pointing at TextPad5... annoying.
I guess I've got some configuration files in one of my backup archives but I don't know what to use and also fear losing my settings for good. Can someone explain what files I need to return my Opus to its old ways please...?
If you created the new USB stick by doing an export or your HDD install, then copying your old USB config over the top, you will have replaced any files the two configs had in common but also left files which were only in the HDD config.
So you probably just need to delete some extra files in /dopusdata/FileTypes for the types in question.
If you still have the USB config backup you can use that to work out which extra files are now on the USB stick.
Personally, I keep a copy of "portable" specific config files in a set of sub-folders for each type of portable use-cases I have under the /dopusdata\Scripts folder. The upshot is that this folder gets saved up along with everything else when I do either an Opus Settings 'Backup & Restore' or an export to USB. So what I'll typically do then is run a button to copy the config stuff from one of those folders to the new/now current /dopusdata folder...
i.e. I have a /dopusdata\Scripts\usb and a /dopusdata\Scripts\vm folder, under which each contains slightly different versions of files in the following dopus config folder structures:
Buttons
ConfigFiles
FileTypes
Formats
Layouts
Than I just run a button that copis the data from the appropriate Scripts folder to update the config of whatever type of system I'm running on. I just do it this way since I then have it all stored along with the rest of my Opus config backup data...
