I’m using the find panel (Ctrl+f) configured to search a certain location and exclude a number of other folders and only show files edited within the last 7 days. I’ve saved this as a preset which I access via a button using the following Find PRESET=!list, faves for quick access.
This works ok but when I click it a find dialogue pops up for a few seconds while it searches. Is there a way to use Everything with this saved preset so the results are returned faster?
I’ve just noticed the Indexed Search option in the find panel but when I remove * from the Name field and place it in the Indexed search field and select Everything search for the index it doesn’t return any results.
If I change it to say *.xlsx it does work as expected and returns all .xlsx files modified in the last 7 days and works a lot faster than using the Name field. However I want it to return all files modified in the last 7 days.
To summarise, I want a button that I can click that will return all files modified in the last 7 days in a certain folder (and subfolders) while also ignoring certain other folders using an indexed search. The Find panel does this ok but I’ve not been able to get it to work using an indexed search so it’s slow to get the results
Putting the * in the Name field works ok but doesn’t use the indexed search so its slow. As soon as I add the * to the Indexed Search field it stops working.
How many files are in the target folder? The point of the indexed search option is to narrow the set of target files, so putting * in the name for that won't really achieve much since the set will be the same as if you hadn't used it.
The target folder is pointing to my OneDrive folder so it's got thousands of files and hundreds of GB's worth of data which is why i'd like to use an indexed search to pull out the files that have been modified in the last week.
There's a couple of folders that contain app data that gets updated all the time and which i'm not bothered about so I exclude those folders from the search.
I've tried with a * in the Name field and without and as you say it makes no difference.
I just tried the button, thanks, but i'm getting an error when I click it. I've clicked the More Information link and ensured everything that should be ticked in Everything is ticked and i've also added my OneDrive folder to the indexes-> folders but I still get that message about missing some required information.
It doesn't appear to be just running slowly as it's not returning all the modified files. What you see in the screenshot is all it shows. When I use the find panel preset it brings back all the files that are modified (excluding the folders I don't want).
Also I need to be able to exclude certain folders otherwise it will include a load of crap such as that Visual Studio backup folder which I don't want cluttering up the results.
The find panel works perfectly apart from the fact it's not using an indexed search so it runs slowly. If i could get the preset to keep all the settings and use an index that would resolve it.
