Utility Panel, find in

Until today when I selected a directory in the 'find in' drop down list in Utility Panel, the directory would remain the same. Now when I select a lister with a different directory then the dir I sected from the 'find in' drop down list, the 'find in' dir changes with the lister I select. It used to stay the same until I changed it. How can I change this?

Maybe you accidently clicked on that little lock symbol? If you click it again, it should be like before.

Both 'locks' are in the unlocked state. Is there a way to purge the 'find in' list that comes up when selecting 'select folders to search'? I would prefer to have a default folder to come up, how can I define that?

Are we talking about Opus 9?

Thanks. (Your profile still says Opus 9, FWIW.)

Could you post a screenshot showing how the Find panel is set up? It should not change folders when you select other file displays if the lock icon is not activated, but maybe seeing how it looks will reveal a detail that I am not thinking of.

(To post a screenshot, use the Post Reply or Full Editor buttons, not the Quick Reply button.)

As you can see the top lister is pointed to D:\data, the bottom to C:\Users\Gary\My Pictures.
If I select the top pane, the 'find in' in the utility panel changes to D:\data. If I select the bottom pane, it changes to C:\users\Gary\Pictures. It didn't used to do that, it would stay on D:\data reguardless of which pane was selected or what directory the selected pane was pointing at. It just started this a few days ago, it's very annoying. It used to stay on whatever path I selected from the "utility Panel" Find in dropdown list.

The lock is on there. You just need to click it to turn it off.

Thanks by "lock" I thought you meant the lock on the folder tree.

That fixed it. When I first open DO how can I set the default path from the dripdown list in the "find in" dropdown? It now always defaults to the second listed path C:\Users\Gary\Pictures, and I want it do use the D:\Data

If the lock is turned off, the folder should be whatever you last did a search in, I think.

It did for a long time, then for what ever reason, now it defaults to the second path in ht 'find in' dropdown list, how can I 'flush' the dropdown list?

The dropdown list is just a history list to make it easier for you to select previous locations, the Find tool doesn't actually use that list itself to decide where to search.

As I stated before for many months the 'find tool' used the path I desired, then for no apparent reason, it changed. How can I define the default 'find tool' directory?

I think I was wrong before, sorry. It looks like the lock does not affect the starting search location, which is normally always the current path from the active folder tab. (The lock just affects what, if anything, then happens if you change folders/tabs.)

If you want the Find panel to always open with a particular default path, and never the current directory, then you can ensure that editing the Tools -> Find Files menu item (or equivalent if you're opening the panel via another method), and specifying the folder(s) you want in the command.

For example:

Find IN D:\Data

Where do you enter the "Find IN D:\Data"? I tried entering it into the "Name and matching" and nothing ....... As totally bitch'in as this program is,
there MUST, be a place to set the default path that appears in the "Find in" dialogue box, when the program opens. As I said earlier the path WAS D:\data, for many months and for what ever reason it changed to C:\Users\Gary\Pictures ..... what changed it?

You can edit the built-in Tools --> Find button if that is what you use to bring up the find dialog.

Alternatively, you could add your own custom button to a toolbar or create a hotkey that fires the command Find IN D:\Data. You can also enter this as an "immediate" command. Type > to bring up the immediate command prompt and then add your find command and press Enter.

How are you invoking the Find Panel.

We've looked into this some more and found that the behaviour did change inadvertently, when we fixed a related issue.

We'll have a fix in the next update so that if the Lock Folder button in the Find panel is turned off, it will remember the folder it was last used in again (instead of always opening for the current folder).

(This is when toggling the Find panel using the Tools -> Find Files item from the default toolbar, which runs the Set UTILITY=Find,Toggle command. Buttons which run the Find command will behave differently, as applicable to their arguments.)

Ok thanks, I will look for the update. I knew something had changed, to cause the path to always change, glad you figured it out.
