Viewing a network location that is sleeping

In my favorites I have a location on another computer on my home network that I use often. However I like to have that computer go to sleep after 20 minutes of inactivity. I can wake it up by walking over there and hitting the keyboard, but I would like an easier way. Could Dopus automatically send the magic packet to wake the computer up when this network location is selected? Or if not, perhaps I could add a button on the dopus toolbar to send the magic packet. I found a program which can send the magic packet and it successfully wakes the computer up, but this program is probably not the one to use since it has a GUI and I must push the button in the GUI to actually wake up the computer. I guess a command line driven program to do this function would be needed to be able to do this from dopus?

Yes, just find a Wake-On-LAN (or similarly named) command-line program and you'll be able to make the Opus button run that before going to the drive. There are lots of them out there, as I remember.

(I could never get any of them to work properly, GUI or command-line, with my network and hardware, so I'm not sure which to recommend.)

@pmennen:

Could you tell me how to get WOL working or which tool you actually using? I have a router (FritzBox) here, which supports WOL, but I never got it to work. So if I would know how to do it with your tool, I maybe will find a cmd-tool, as I don't like using a GUI too! But - as said - first I would like to get it working :slight_smile:. Thanks.

Ok, thanks Leo - I will look for a command line tool.
Is there a way to make a drive bar button or a favorite item call the command line tool or will I have to make a new button to do this?

Hi Sasa. I was using "SolarWinds Wake-On-Lan" version 8.1 (March 2005). Seems to work well.
It was free, but I think I had to give them a phone number to allow the download, but of course I didn't give them a real one :slight_smile:

After reading this thread I did a search and came across this article which looks like it may be of assistance.
