Add .docx to the list of file extensions handled by the ActiveX Document plugin, and make sure this plugin is listed above the Multiview plugin in the Plugin Preferences.
Indeed you are the Opus, Goo goo g'joob.(1)
Worked like a charm, thank you for your prompt and effective reply.
(1) "I Am the Walrus" also contains the unusual exclamation goo goo goo joob. Various unsatisfactory hypotheses exist regarding the origin and meaning of these syllables. One claim is that the phrase was derived from the very similar "koo koo ka choo" in Paul Simon's song Mrs. Robinson, written in 1967. However, the film The Graduate, where "Mrs. Robinson" debuted, was not released until December 1967, a month after the release of "I Am the Walrus", and The Graduate Original Soundtrack (which contained only fragments of the final version of "Mrs. Robinson") was not released until January 1968. It has also been noted that James Joyce's Finnegans Wake contains the words googoo goosth at the top of page *557, where it appears:
...like milk-juggles as if it was the wrake of the hapspurus or old Kong Gander O'Toole of the Mountains or his googoo goosth she seein, sliving off over the sawdust lobby out of the backroom, wan ter, that was everywans in turruns, in his honeymoon trim, holding up his fingerhals...
It is not clear that Joyce is the source, or what it would mean if he were, but Lennon was a reader and admirer of Joyce's.
Or it could have just been the drugs
Ho Ho Ho, Ha Ha Ha, Hee Hee Hee.
And what drugs they were.
Recreational drug use
In Hamburg, the Beatles were given "prellies" (Preludin) by German customers, or by Astrid Kirchherr (whose mother bought them).[77] McCartney would usually take one, but Lennon would often take four or five.[77]
After having been introduced to cannabis by Bob Dylan in New York, in 1964,[78] McCartney remembered them all getting "very high" and giggling.[79] The Beatles occasionally smoked a spliff in the car on the way to the studio during the filming of Help!, which often made them forget their lines.[80]
In April 1965, Lennon and Harrison were introduced to LSD by an acquaintance, dentist John Riley.[81] Lennon in particular became an avid "tripper", claiming in a 1970 interview in Rolling Stone to have taken LSD hundreds of times. McCartney was more reluctant to try this particular experiment, but finally did so in 1966 and was the first Beatle to talk about it in the press.
The Beatles added their names to an advertisement in The Times, on 24 July 1967, which asked for the legalisation of cannabis, the release of all prisoners imprisoned because of possession, and research into marijuana's medical uses. The advertisement was sponsored by a group called Soma, and was signed by 65 people, including Brian Epstein, Graham Greene, R.D. Laing, 15 doctors, and two MPs.[82] On a sailing trip to Greece, in 1967, the whole band sat around on the boat and took acid.[83]
I've got .docx in ActiveX Document, and it is above MultiView. Now suddenly, I'm getting what I put in my first message, instead of seeing the document.
I'm not aware of anything that changed to cause this. I've taken out .docx and put it in again, turned MultiView on and off, turned ActiveX Document on and off. Doesn't fix.
How can I get to see my docx files again?
TIA for any suggestions.
Maybe something has changed Word's ActiveX registration. Do .docx files still display okay when you drop them on Internet Explorer?
I just tried this and it worked fine for me. Both .docx and .doc display with Word's fancy visual style.
