I don't really know how to name this line on top of each view showing the currently displayed path, where you can click on one of the displayed folders to go there...
Anyway, explorer has something similar in Vista, except you can drop a folder list at each of the folder levels to show the sibling folders - And you can also type in the path right away, like the location bar in DO.
Now, that is one (of the only) cool feature of the new explorer in vista. I dearly hope this is part of a new shell control thing so that it can easily be integrated in other file managers. In DO it would mean a merge of functionality for both the path bar & the location bar.
It would work pretty well!
I think the name for it is the breadcrumb bar, although "breadcumb" traditionally only indicates that you can see and click on previous levels to go back to them (much like Opus's existing hot paths), while Vista goes a bit further and lets you select child and subling levels via pop-up menus.
I liked the idea of the breadcrumb bar but after using it briefly I found it annoying. You can no longer click on the path and quickly type over bits of it or quickly drag-select bits of it to put in the clipboard, and the path itself becomes much wider because instead of a small \ between each component you have a big arrow with lots of space around it, plus an extra arrow before the top-level.
I still support seeing it in Opus, though. While it's probably not for me I'm sure it will work well for many people.

I don't believe it. Did Tanis ask you to post this as an example on how to title posts "correctly"?

Yeah I can see how it wouldn't be for everyone. Maybe an option to turn this option on or off for the navigation path.

Yup. There are already a few different types of path controls (as well as filter boxes, command entry boxes, etc.) that can be placed (or not ) in toolbars, so a breadcrumb bar which works similarly would please everyone.
You just haven't stumbled on the part of the breadcrumb bar I accidentally found - if you click in the area just to the right of the right-most part of the location and it turns to the traditional path ("c:\users\administrator") which you can then copy to the clipboard. You can also get there with a keyboard wiht "alt+d"
Agree with the drag bits and the wider path though.
Maybe instead of having a space-consuming arrow, the same functionality could be integrated in the right-click menu, either in the 'location bar' or 'lister title'... preferably the 'location bar' since lister title is always too small to show the complete path.
