There's an option to turn on/off moving navigation arrows on the left and right side of a lister (dual mode). That's ok, but uncomfortable (in my opinion).
There was another great navigation-solution in DO4 using the parent-function when clicking on the left/right side of a lister (you remember?). What's the reason against this feature?
Please don't use this topic to discuss again about ".."!
It only really works with a maximized window on a single-monitor computer.
That said, if the slide-out arrows worked even when the mouse pointer was over the slight border at the maxized window edge, maybe it'd make everyone happy?
Multiple monitors are becoming more and more popular, as are large/high-res monitors where people have enough space that they want to use several programs side-by-side instead of one maximized program at a time. Of course, everyone works differently, I'm just saying that a significant number of people aren't using Opus maximized.
(Myself, about the only programs I regularly use maximized are Visual Studio and Photoshop.)
Even with Opus maxmized, on a dual-monitor system you can't whack the mouse into one of the sides of the screen to put it on that border because it'll keep moving on to the other monitor.
I always use DO maximized, because...
a small windowsize also makes thumbnail view useless
using clumns like size, type, length, relative size,... at once is useless.
showing labels under the standard-toolbar with a screensize smaller than 1280x1024 is useless (German labelling is much longer!)
for me Flickr & Co. is useless.
There are choices in between "maximized" and "tiny". Of course, there's nothing wrong with using a maximized window if that's what you find works best for you. I'm not trying to tell you to use something different; just saying that not everyone uses a maximized window.
The slide-out buttons that you get at the edge of the screen are small but that shouldn't matter because they appear under the mouse pointer (at least if you have the drop-down set to corners and sides).
The only problem I can see, and the only real difference between the slide-out buttons and what was possible in the old Amiga version, is that when Opus is maximized on a single-monitor computer you cannot whack the mouse pointer to the side of the screen and click because of the thin (1 pixel?) border around the window where the slide-out buttons don't appear. Instead you have to whack the mouse to the edge and then move it out slightly, which I imagine is nowhere near as convenient. So if that were changed would it solve the problem for you?
(I don't know how easy/possible it is to change. It might be trivial or it might be a pain. The first question is whether it would solve the problem or not.)
I use dual monitors, too. In fact I have 4 PC's at home, one with dual and two with single (one is the DO-PC).
You're right (I didn't thought about this), it would be same just removing the 1-5 pixel border, so that you can move to the edge (0,00 pixel!) without stoping before and targeting. That would be a great solution.
