When copy, apps start to be frozen

Hello, I have one strange problem. When copy one file / 1 gb / to USB flash disk:

  • First - its show that was copy very fast, but to finish copy waiting 1 minute more
  • Second when waiting this one minute more, another soft like Chrome ore Thunderbird start to be frozen till finish copy.

When copy normal with windows explorer all is working fine.

I have win 7 64, D. Opus 10, and PC with 16 GB Ram 4 procesor and SSD disk. Normal everything working fine just this copy make me problem.

Thank you for support.

Make sure you're using the latest version of Opus (10.1.0.0)

Hello, I use last version of Opus: 10.1.0.0.4570 x64
This is happen when copy to USB flash big files. I can not work on PC during copy. All open soft is frozen. After copy all is ok.

Regards, Pava

If this only started happening with 10.1.0.0 (or the recent betas leading up to it) then try setting Preferences / Miscellaneous / Advanced: copy_nonbufferio_threshold to 0 (zero).

(Although the non-buffered I/O mode introduced in 10.1 seemed to fix the freezing some people saw when copying to certain USB devices, maybe your hardware/drivers/anti-virus have the opposite problem. It is a problem with the machine rather than Opus itself as Opus is just writing to a file handle which should not cause such a freeze if the system is working correctly. Unless the machine is very low on memory or similar. (Non-buffered I/O potentially uses a bit more memory, but not a huge amount.))

Hello, I made change and is the same. Very strange. When show that is copy is ok. When green line finish / like that is copy already finish / next 15 second I can not use internet or any software.
Memory its not problem in my machine. Think. I use software what really need lot of memory / RAM is 16GB / and no have problem. Also disk is SSD, very good and new disk. Thank you for help.

Try resetting copy_nonbufferio_threshold in Opus and then disabling write caching on the USB device in Windows. Here's a guide explaining how to do so.

It sounds like a large write cache is being used on the device and it is responding very slowly while data in that cache is being written to it.
