Where have my file descriptions gone?

#1

Summary: After upgrading to Directory Opus 8 your old file descriptions (added using the Set Description command) may have disappeared.

After upgrading to Directory Opus 8 from a previous version your old file descriptions (added using the Set Description command) may have disappeared. This is because Directory Opus 8 uses a different, incompatible system for storing file descriptions.

In response to feedback from many customers, Directory Opus 8 now uses the semi-standard descript.ion file description system. The old, proprietary system of file descriptions used in Directory Opus 6 is no longer supported; however, it is easy to configure Opus to convert your old file descriptions to the new system automatically.

Directory Opus 9:[ul][li]Go to Preferences - Miscellaneous - Advanced and turn on convert_descriptions.[/li][/ul]Directory Opus 8:[ul][li]Create the following registry value using RegEdit:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\GPSoftware\Directory Opus\Config\User

b ConvertDescriptions = "1"[/b][/li][/ul]Then shutdown and restart Opus.

If this flag is set then Opus will automatically convert its old-style description files to the descript.ion format whenever it reads a directory containing one of the old files.
