Width of Columns in Dual Pane

I have a 15 inch laptop screen.

When I split the screen to use two panes, the width of columns in each pane is set to "some default" which I do not know where it comes from. I have to resize to reduce the width of columns to see the Size and Date etc. in each pane. However, I expect that during subsequent sessions when I open two panes, the width of columns in each pane stays like what I had saved earlier instead of reverting back to default. Currently, every time I open two panes, column width reverts to "some" default.

How do I ensure that width of column in stays the same, particularly in case of two panes when screen real estate is limited ?

I want to do this for each and every folder that I open in these two panes and ideally will not want to use per folder settings.

Here's a tutorial video which is long but probably almost all relevant to the different things you're aiming for:

I'd recommend giving that a watch, and then if you still have any questions, shout here and we can fill in any missing parts.
