Window focus problem when opening Directory Opus

Hello,

When I open Directory Opus, it doesn't keep focus. What will happen is the program will open, take focus, then immediately lose focus for some reason and the lister will flash 3 times in the task bar. I have to click on the lister in order for it to regain focus and then I can use Directory Opus. This is driving me CRAZY, and I can't manage to find a setting to fix it.

I am using Directory Opus v9.0.0.6 on Windows Vista Ultimate x64.

I tried reinstalling Directory Opus but that didn't help.

How are you opening the window?

I am using either the Quick Launch icon or the Start Menu icon. Both have the same problem.

  1. Do both the shortcuts just run dopus.exe?

  2. Is Opus already running when you launch it? i.e. Are the shortcuts telling Opus to open a new window when it was already running in the background, or are they launching Opus?

  3. Could you post a screenshot showing Preferences - Launching Opus - Startup so we can try with the same settings?

  4. Do you have any floating toolbars?

  4. Both shortcuts point directly to dopus.exe

  5. Opus is not running when I launch it (only the double click app is running in the background, and ending it doesn't help). The problem occurs when I first launch Opus. If I leave the initial window open and click on the Quick Launch or Start Menu icon to launch it again, the new lister window does not experience the problem I described.

  6. Sure thing. I have attached it to this post.

  7. Nope.

Thanks!

Confirmed. I've sent a report to GPSoft so they can look at it.

As a workaround for the time being you could set Opus to always run in the background. The listers will open much faster as a bonus.

Thanks! I really appreciate the help.

Hopefully it will be fixed in the next update.

Well, I updated to v9.0.0.7 and this issue is still present. Heres to hoping it is fixed in the next update....

Well, this issue persisted through the v9.0.0.8 and v9.0.0.9 releases, and I really had hope that the newly released x64 version (9.1.0.0) would have resolved this problem but alas it has not.

Any idea on when/if this will be fixed?

We at the user-run forum generally have no idea about when things will be fixed, unless GPSoftware have said anything. (Or unless a fix is in a beta version, which beta testers are not allowed to talk about due to NDA agreements.)

I agree it should be fixed but is there any reason you don't want to run Opus in the background at startup? It doesn't use much memory and you're running 64-bit Windows so presumably you have at least 4gig of memory.

To clarify, I mean having Opus running but without any windows open, so that when you double-click the desktop (or use another method) to open a new Opus window it opens instantly, and without any focus problems.

I understand that you have no idea on the status the bug.

Since it appears that this will not be fixed anytime soon, I am probably going to take your advice and start Opus and Windows startup and keep it running.

Thanks for taking the time to respond and for your dedication to this forum!
