Windows 7 functions open in Opus

I'm having trouble with the relatively new HP laptop with Windows 7. When I type in "customize" in the start box, I go to the right links, but clicking any of them opens a blank Directory Opus lister. What might I done and how can I fix it? I've exited the program, but clicking a customize link just restarts it to a blank. BTW, I just noticed typing "control panel" goes nowhere at all. I've scanned several ways and believe I'm virus free, so got any ideas? My computer and Opus function just fine, as long as I don't want to customize or use the control panel. This probably isn't a Directory Opus problem, but could someone point me in the right direction.

Which version of Opus are you using?

9

Sorry, didn't mean to be so terse = version 9. I've never had a problem with it.

Oh, and I found I'm able to properly open some customize links, like sounds and screen saver, but "change the theme" goes nowhere while "change desktop background" and "change window glass colors" open Opus. And by going back in the "bread crumbs" at top, I can access the Control Panel -- but the links under System and Security don't work...

What's the full version number?

It wasn't until 9.5.0.0 that Opus supported Windows 7 so if you've installed a very old version for some reason then that may explain things.

It's 9.0.0.0 but I really haven't had any problem. I immediately installed Directory Opus, since I rely on it over Windows Explorer, and set up a default lister with tabs for folders where Windows 7 now puts things. I customized the desktop with rotating pictures then left it alone until recently when I noticed the pictures weren't changing. That's when I found out I couldn't customize. But I remembered how in XP I could right-click on a graphic in Directory Opus and make it the desktop picture. So I tried that and got this error message: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." Does this help?

9.0.0.0 is almost four years old. If you're a registered user the upgrade is free, if you're a pirate there are definitely more recent torrents available than that. Either way there's no reason to waste our time any longer - the solution is to update to the latest version.

OK, the free upgrade did it! All of it, I think. Control Panel opens and I've already customized the theme! Thanks so much!!! So Directory Opus was the culprit, huh? Who knew (other than you)? You know, I didn't want to risk losing anything since the old version was working just the way I wanted. But everything seems to have come through intact. Great work! And thanks once again!

You'll never lose anything by keeping up-to-date with the latest version.

Indeed, what do you gain by using something that is a couple of years, and an operating system, out of date?

Opus isn't cheap, but it also doesn't sting you for more money every time the codeheads cough.

PS Will Windows 7 SP1 have any implications for Opus?

Nothing that we're aware of - SP1 has been out for a couple of weeks now and I don't think there have been any related issues.

I didn't expect there to be any implications from SP1, but one or two utilities have come out with "SP1 friendly" versions.

How much could we sell you an "SP1 friendly" upgrade for?

Twelvety.

About as much as I paid for SP1.

But I bet some vendors out there will try it on.

The stuff I saw updated was freebie utilities. Like CCleaner. (No, I do not make a habit of using that stuff.)

................................... Nice!

.

Wow! a reference to a torrent? That wouldn't be appropriate.

+1

P.S. Yes I'm a paying, registered license holder.
