Windows 8

I just picked up a Microsoft Windows 8 magazine at the new stand. Before I get too excited about Windows 8. I have just one question. Will Opus support Windows 8 in due time. I usually wait for a year or two before I upgrade. But I'm curious to know the plans for Opus.

Of course.

It works already on Win 8 RP so far, surely, there're some bugs, but should be fixed immediateley after official release

Good News.

Who cares? Windows ME II (for Metro Edition, aka Windows 8) so far has turned into a disaster rivaling the absolute worst Microsoft has ever done. Personally, this will be the first version of Windows that I refuse to "upgrade" to.

As I mentioned I usually wait a year. Me & Vista. U passed on fore every reason you can think of. Window's 7 was great. I have heard of no war stories regarding Windows 8. You never know.

PS You would not by chance be an Apple user???

If the only thing you've read about Windows 8 is Microsoft Windows 8 magazine then you probably haven't been exposed to the full range of opinions people have about the new OS.

But this isn't the place to have a general discussion about Windows 8. Please use the CoffeeShop area instead.

The bottom line, in terms of Opus, is that Windows 8 will be supported when it is released, and Opus already seems to work as-is on the current Win8 preview builds. However, MS are still making a lot of last minute changes to Win8, so we don't guarantee that current versions of Opus will work for sure on the final Win8; we may need to make some changes, but that remains to be seen. If we need to then we will, obviously, as we are not going to throw away all the potential customers who buy new PCs with Win8 pre-installed.

Sasa reported a couple of problems with the latest Win8 preview build but I don't think anyone has confirmed them yet, and it isn't certain that they are actually due to Win8 and not some other variable. In-progress OS updates are always a moving target and that is even more true of Win8 than previous releases. We have done some quick testing which indicates things generally work fine and there won't be any major problems to overcome, but beyond that we are waiting until the RTM version is available. RTM versions typically come out 3 months before the retail release, giving us plenty of time to iron out any issues.
