Ok, I have Vista and have just downloaded DOpus....
I have set DO to be the replacement for Windows Explorer.
I have enabled the use of the "Open in Directory Opus" thing in the context menu, but when I actually try to use it nothing, absolutely nothing happens.
Links for files on the desktop open OK with the usual double click, but when I access the start menu, that's where the problem is.
However, a quick look around will also tell you that many people are finding and recommending workarounds for the time being. This is what I was hoping for.
So, if anyone has a workaround or has discovered how to get it work in Vista a little better than I have, I will try these suggestions.
I have found no workaround to replacing Explorer with DO under Vista. Custom tool bars and Properties are also 100% non functional. You can do a lot in Vista with DO 8 but not all the goodies work nor can they work without the next release. A lot of things do work even with UAC enabled. More works than does not work as far as I have seen
It may not be the full DO you have been used to but it's still better than none or Explorer alone. For the most part I've not found many workarounds that work around anything very useful. I really think I'll just dump the version 8 install and do a whole new one when ver 9 is released. Some old habits are better to be left behind when you do a major O/S change. You don't spend so long wanting things like they used to be. The old days were not that great.
Was there a workaround for this? The Explorer Replacement system had to be changed in Opus 9 to make it work in Vista; wasn't just a simple registry tweak or anything.
