Windows Libraries

Lo Order Issue Libraries - one of the features in Explorer is to view a Library by ModifyDate, Name, Type and Tag. I find the last two very useful.
I could not see how to do it in Opus - or not as easily anyway. I rarely drill down to look at the folders in a Library.

Thanks BR

You can sort the contents of a library like any other folder, so I'm not quite sure I understand what it is you're asking for.

@jon - have you made much use of Win 7 Libraries yourself - its not just sorting.

For my Ebooks its flattening a 4 level hierarchy of 7000+ folders, then Sorting the composite list of files and then grouping them - but that wont work for Tags - because a book can have multiple tags. same thing for Images of which I have 16,000+ in 500+ folders.

I use Ebook and Image management apps to do the heavy lifting, Calibre and iMatch respectively. So Windows Library is an adjunct to those - but its nevertheless quite useful to find all the picture of Snowball (our cat), or all the books tagged with GoldmanSachs

I assume Windows maintain indices for the ModifyDate, Name, Type and Tag - I've no idea if it uses the Windows Search indexes. But its pretty damn quick.

BTW I don't think any of your competitors do Libraries too well either. It seems to be blind spot amongst file manager vendors.

Thanks BR

It sounds like Flat View (Mixed No Folders) + Grouping will do what you're after.

Just did a test by File Type on my ebooks library (30000+ files) - I didn't time it, but it was long enough for me to go to the loo, get an apple juice from the kitchen, say hello to the cat, come back here and wait another 10-20 secs. The disk, 500Gb 4-5 years old, lives in a USB 2.0 Disk Dock.

in Explorer I got the same result on the same data in < 2 sec , so would Opus if it used the Win 7 Library API to read the indices that are already there. Maybe faster because Opus seems to be a bit snappier at most things. Not sure where the indexes are - maybe on the 64G ReadyBoost flash drive I gave to Windows for Christmas

But as the OP said its a lo order issue, its not as tho 'I don't have Explorer at my finger tips :unamused:

Thanks BR
