Hi,
When I search a file in an indexed folder, the search is much slower than Explorer one. I suspect that windows search is not integrated in Directory Opus.
Please help me to make searches quicker as Explorer ones
I mean searches from the top right box
try using filename:xyz instead of just xyz when searching. Explorer seems to apply different default rules in indexed and non-indexed folders, and using a query in Opus which only searches filenames (not file contents) should make it equivalent.
When I use filename:xyz for search sometime I have wrong results sometime I don't have results at all.
I have wrong results even when type a simply search in the the top right box. For example when I search the word aomei in DO I have 5011 results in Explorer 63 and if I type filename:aomei I don't have results
If you're not using the English version of Windows then "filename:" won't work and you'll need to look up the appropriate syntax, as the Windows Search query syntax is localised. (An unfortunate decision by Microsoft.)
If that doesn't explain the difference, and you don't see the same results using filename:xyz in Explorer, then please post some examples of what Opus and Explorer match for some given queries so we can try to work out what's happening. It's hard to guess what's happening just from how many matches there are without knowing anything about the things which are/aren't matching the query.
I don't know what's happened. I did a search with filename: (localized) and now Directiry Opus behavior is similar to Explorer even if I don't use filename:. The searches are a little slower than Explorer but fast enough for me.
Can you add the popup that permit to refine search by selecting size, extension and others like Explorer does?
I don't think we can add a pop-up as there isn't an API for it that I know of.
I resume this thread because I want to show strange Opus behavior when I do a search.
I recorded a short video
Usually only first search is wrong
I can't see anything wrong in the video, but I am not sure what to look for.
You should see the same results from the same search in the same location done in Windows Explorer.
If you aren't expecting all those folders to be matched, note that in this situation Windows Search will, by default, match things with "adobe" in their path as well as their names, contents and metadata. You probably want to refine the search to avoid that. e.g. filename:adobe -- This applies to Windows Explorer as well as Opus, and is down to Windows Search which Opus just passes the query to and returns the results from, not anything Opus is doing.
Windows Explorer has found 6235 entries, DOpus first search 18599, second search 6235, third search 10249, fourth search 7100, fifth 6235 but the searched word is always "adobe"
Only second and fifth searches are correct.
It's important for me that the first search is often wrong.
Imho this is a strange Opus behavior
What are some example items which are found in one case and not found in another? Looking at the differences is likely to lead to understanding why they are matched sometimes and not others.
(I suspect the folder that is being searched is not always the same, which can be subtle when dealing with a virtual folder like My Documents. More so if the Documents library is involved. But we need to examine some of the items to confirm that theory.)
I did another search and this time results are slightly different. The word is always "adobe"
1° search 19294
2° search 6235
3° search 6599
4° search 7372
I attached the results of every search (I don't know how to attach only the difference)
Folder "Documenti" belongs to Documents library. I did other searches in ordinary folders with no problem
4° search 7372.txt (892 KB)
3° search 6599.txt (844 KB)
2° search 6235.txt (807 KB)
1° search 19294.txt (1.78 MB)
Hi Leo,
Any news regarding this issue?
