when I drag a file to the folder tab of the source folder the shows a "plus" sign indicating the file will be copied. This is correct. But if I then change the destination while still holding the mouse key pressed the "plus" sign stays but the file is moved. The behavior is correct but the tip is not updated. Can somebody confirm this? Is this a bug?
I cannot post a screen shot as the print screen does not show what I see. You have to believe me
I don't know that you'd get the same official response now, but a few years ago I reported this as a possible bug too. I can't recall exactly what I was told at the time, but essentially GPSoft said because Opus is so flexible in how you can program it to move or copy files by way of drag and drop, that once you start customizing Opus, it's not really possible to make the little popup indicator tell you exactly what will happen when you drag and drop. I'm sure that's not quite what they said, but it was something along those lines.
Got it on one, John. The '+' info tip simply indicates the physical button you are using with the mouse. While the default is to copy/move, the actual function can be changed via File Types to do whatever a user wants so it is not like windows explorer where it's fixed. You could, for example, change the command action to display a picture, play an sound file etc if you want and not copy anything!
If I understand it correctly it is not possible to have the correct info tip AFTER customizing DOpus. That's fair.
But how I can tell if i customized the copy/move behaviour of DOpus?
I cannot remember doing such things except modifying the behavior for archives which will open in a new tab.
Although I will start with "normal software engineering method" (I am one myself) (Thanks greg ), it is not that urgent. I just wanted to be sure about the behavior that I am seeing.
I do tend to fall back on the 'normal software engineering method' many times with lots of software.
We've always had an ongoing internal discussion thread on this issue for a long time and it's a slightly difficult concept to clearly define what to do here since there are not 'standardised' tips for all the different commands one could use in Opus. But, as Leo noted above, the area is flagged for improvement on the next version.
